Kirsten Longmuir is a Scottish based performer who recently completed her final year of training for her BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre at Motherwell College, accredited by Northumbria University. Born in La Oratava, Tenerife; she grew up the small town of Crieff, Perthshire, and now resides in Edinburgh.
Since a very young age, Kirsten has been extremely passionate about the performing arts, and chose to spend her free time refining her performance skills. This included undertaking many extra-curricular clubs such as choir practise, voice tuition, piano and guitar lessons, and drama and dance classes. She attended Perth Youth Theatre for four years, where she improved on her devising, and improvisational skills, and built up her confidence in her acting abilities. Due to her energetic and musical characteristics as a child, her mother took her to dance lessons, and throughout her childhood and teenage years she trained in tap, ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, commercial, Scottish country and highland dance. During her school years she performed in various productions such as ‘Into The Woods’, A Christmas Carol’ and three professional pantomimes in Perth Theatre. Her experiences there gave her the drive and ambition which lead her to her chosen career in musical theatre.

Her love of performing led to her successful application to train at the prestigious Musical Theatre Course at The Dance School of Scotland, the only National Centre of Excellence for Musical Theatre in the country. There she trained for two years and received an ATCL (Distinction)

Diploma in Musical Theatre, from Trinity College London. She feels that this intense training programme prepared her for the stamina that is required from the industry today.

Following this training she took her studies to Motherwell College. With its association with the Estill Voice Training method, she has explored the full capabilities of her voice and feels it has broadened her casting opportunities. With playing roles such as ‘Ilse’ in ‘Spring Awakening’ and ‘Amneris’ in ‘Aida’, she feels that training at Motherwell College has made her a more confident and versatile performer.

Outside of college Kirsten has trained as a Basic Level One Zumba Instructor, she has a purple belt in the martial art of karate, she enjoys theatrical hair styling and design, and has a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Another area of her life where she feels passionate is her love for children’s theatre. She has directed, choreographed, and assisted with many classes, and productions for young children such as ‘Grease’, ‘Oklahoma’, and a summer school in the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh. She feels that this has stemmed from both her parents being primary school teachers, and her being raised in an educational environment.

In the future, Kirsten hopes to move to London to pursue a career in musical theatre, and looks forward to the challenges the industry will undoubtedly bring. She believes that her strengths lie mostly in her singing skills, but also prides herself on her acting and dance abilities. Therefore, in the future, she sees herself looking for work in cruise ships, Theatre in Education companies, touring productions and possibly musicals in the West End of London.
